The previous day's photo was of incomplete Red Velvet cake batter in the mixer bowl. Irene was cooking it for my birthday party on Friday. I'll be 25 on Monday.

Today's is a view of the completed cake. It was delicious. Thanks Irene!

Last of the storm clouds illuminated by this morning's sunrise.

TIP Do you ever feel your images look washed out when viewed in the browser? For those of you who use Firefox - if you don't you should, and here is why - you can enable color management in the browser. By default the browser will ignore the color profile in images, but with a change to one setting you can remedy the issue and see photos how they appear in other color managed apps (Lightroom, Photoshop, etc). There is one disclaimer, this does come with a performance hit of roughly 15-20%, but on modern machine this should be negligible.

This requires Firefox 3.x. In the address bar enter "about:config" to view the hidden configuration options. In the filter type "gfx.color_management.enabled" and set that option to true, by default it is false. Restart the browser and you will now see color managed images.

Hungry Hungry Hippo!

We caught this little guy snacking on some Lucky Charms. Irene recently finished this amigurumi hippo. Amigurumi are Japanese styled crochet stuffed animals. Irene has completed a few birds and has a lion in the works. That's what the yellow yarn photographed last month was for.
Oliver Chong > 2009.1.18 - Day ? :

It has been snowing hard here all day. Before we made our way over to the grocery store I grabbed the camera and had Irene pose in the snow. She's so cute.

I had the on camera flash fire, but I think it was too small to give the catch light I was looking for. That and it was bright diffuse light outside so Irene's pupils were very contracted. I intentionally let the camera over expose and got exactly what I was looking for.

I also took a few 4 seasons photos, but I haven't had time to sort through them yet. If you return here later I will link to them.

Nothing special... just playing with the parameter settings on the camera.
Oliver Chong > 2008.06.07 - Day 56 :

We flew in to Columbus this morning and sat around at Elliot's apartment waiting for our parents to arrive. In the evening we went to Short North (an area of Columbus) for the gallery hop. Unfortuneately we were so tired we didn't make it to many of the galleries and the entire area was packed with people.

This picture was taken inside of one of the galleries. I've cropped it pretty heavily and applied the Orton effect to it. Care to guess what it is?
Oliver Chong > 2008.06.12 - Day 61 :

Just an experiment with shallow depth of field and foreground brokeh.
Oliver Chong > 2008.05.22 - Day 40 :

Irene was ready for a new computer so we bought the parts the other day to model the one I built in late February. It is amazing how quickly the prices drop. It was ~$150 less three months later.

You can see three of the most important parts of a good computer: the processor, the ram and the video card. The "silentpipe" is covering the Northbridge.

If you're curious the components are: Intel Core 2 Quad 6600, 4GB DDR2-800, Nvidia 8800GT.
Oliver Chong > 2008.05.20 - Day 38 :

It was a struggle tonight to get a shot that I liked. I have some ideas, but they are setup shots and I need the time to take them.
