365 photos from 2008.04.13 - 2009.04.12

In an attempt to improve my photographic skills I decided to take one photo a day that I feel is worth sharing publicly. This gallery will chronicle the project. I know this is going to be fairly tough to do, but I hope that I can turn it in to a habit. I promise not to back fill any days I miss.

2008.06.10 - I decided it was silly to not back fill if I had taken the picture on a day, but didn't get a chance to post it on the same day. So I am now back filling. I will comment on a current day picture if I add a back fill that same day.

Video games make for great amusement and are certainly not just for children. They also don't corrupt the young any more than the things your parents thought corrupted you at a similar age. More than likely we are all destined to make the corruption statement at some point.

Playing with photoshop again. This nice tree is in front of my apartment.

A forest of I don't know what...

The little lonely violin. Not played for months it sits in its case, even there gathering dust.

So we just got home from seeing Esperanza Spalding at the Regattabar in Cambridge. She was amazing. Esperanza graduated from Berkley a year sooner than usual and at 20 became the youngest instructor ever at the school. This was her cd release party and if you like Jazz, I recommend you give her a listen on iTunes or at her website http://www.esperanzaspalding.com/ Ponta de Areia and Precious are two of my favorites.

Unfortunately I didn't bring my camera, but I saw two people there with SLRs so I will remember for the next time I am at that venue.

Playing with texture and a variation of the Orton effect.

A friend was in town this weekend so we went to Boston for a Duck Tour. A Duck Tour, if you don't know, takes you around the city and into the water.

This is a picture of the shakers on the Longfellow Bridge aka the "Salt and Pepper Bridge" that links Boston proper to Cambridge. It spans across the Charles River.

*Sorry John, the broken subjects didn't turn out as well as I thought. I'll keep my eye out for a good one though.

This is my take on the Orton technique. Created in Photoshop from a single exposure, but I'm sure you could get the same effect by directly replicating the original concept with two exposures.

"The original technique invented by Michael Orton was to overlay two or more images of an identical scene with very different exposures on slide film.[2] One image is sharply focused and the others are very out of focus. Orton has also experimented with similar techniques, substituting one of the images in the composition for one of a different subject, such as a texture layer, or combining a multi-colored image and a monotone one."

The sun setting over the Merrimack river in Lowell, MA. Those are mill stacks that rise in to the sky.

Irene was ready for a new computer so we bought the parts the other day to model the one I built in late February. It is amazing how quickly the prices drop. It was ~$150 less three months later.

You can see three of the most important parts of a good computer: the processor, the ram and the video card. The "silentpipe" is covering the Northbridge.

If you're curious the components are: Intel Core 2 Quad 6600, 4GB DDR2-800, Nvidia 8800GT.
