Oliver Chong > 2009.4.28 Another day of record high temperatures combined with an evening cold front has created more dramatic clouds. They threaten rain, but nothing has fallen either days that I have photographed the clouds. This shot is false colored after capturing with the polarizer in place.
Oliver Chong > 2009.4.26 The sky was very unsettled this evening, but it never made it to raining. I looked out of the office window and saw this cloud floating past so I rushed down to the top of the parking garage to take a clear shot.
Oliver Chong > 2009.4.25 Irene and I went for a short hike through a park we had never been to before. It's still pretty brown out save for a few little green plants at ground level. We did find a small patch of wildflowers so a macro of one is today's picture.
Oliver Chong > 2009.4.24 I was looking at the chrysanthemum Jennifer gave Irene as a get well gift and noticed this particular flower where an oddly shaped small petal was curved inwards towards the pollen. I imagined that the petal drew the short straw and had the job of keeping the pollen organized. I tried replicating the look that a cross-processed Lomo photo would have using a guide that DPS had posted. This probably isn't the best subject for this effect, but I am definitely more pleased than not about how it ended up looking.
Oliver Chong > 2009.4.23 The first fly this year that I have seen make its way inside. I have no idea where it came in from, though we did have the front door of the apartment open for a while. This is somewhere between 1:1 and 1.5:1 since I cropped a bit. I could do the math, but I will guess 1.25:1. I have a set of Kenko extension tubes on the way which should get me near 2:1.
Oliver Chong > 2009.4.20 Irene started working on a new illustration this evening of a girl floating in the sky over a city with her cheeks puffed up. She does a multistep process - first she does a sketch in pencil and then she overlays a new piece of paper to do an inking using her light table (seen here.) From here the process diverges to either scanning in to the computer to be colored in Painter or done by hand with markers, pencils, or watercolor. You can see a small portion of Irene's artwork on her website www.ireneros.com/Art/. She said she will post a comment here sometime tomorrow linking to the subject piece when it's finished.
Oliver Chong > 2009.4.19 We probably have 15 or so different types of flowers in the apartment right now from well wishes for Irene. The last four days I've been attempting to take great close up / macro photos of the flowers. It has definitely turned out to be much more difficult than I thought it would be. While it's not so challenging to get an okay flower photo... capturing one that can hold interest isn't coming so easy at the moment. This is an uncropped photo of what I think is a Wydler's Dancing-lady orchid bud.
